Unlock New Opportunities: Why Becoming an ESC Volunteer Could Change Your Life
I’m Mariam, I come from the picturesque country of Armenia. My number one priority has always been personal and professional growth. I was in my final year as a student at the Pedagogical University in Yerevan and was considering pursuing a master’s degree. However, fate had something else in store for me. While I was working on my diploma thesis, I received an email from the EU NEIGHBOURS East news channel. The email contained a life-changing article about ESC volunteering.
The next day, I started searching for every possible piece of information about ESC volunteering. I watched countless videos and read numerous articles on the topic. Over the following weeks, volunteering was all I could think about. Finally, I decided to register on the European Youth Portal, and I did it! The first announcement I came across was from INPRO. I read everything carefully, checked their webpage, and decided to apply. Yes, I did it! And now I’m in Poland, in Rzeszów, working with INPRO!
Why Become an ESC Volunteer?
Why become an ESC volunteer, you might ask? I am working in a multinational environment, which has significantly helped me develop my communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds. I work with youth, which is both challenging and rewarding. Additionally, I write blog posts on various topics, present my country to different groups in Rzeszów and in schools, conduct workshops, and much more.
Being in Poland and working with INPRO has been a transformative experience in so many ways. Every day brings new opportunities to learn and grow. I’ve met people from all over the world, each with their own unique story, culture, and perspective. This has not only broadened my understanding of different cultures but has also deepened my appreciation for diversity.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is engaging with youth. Whether I’m leading a workshop, organising cultural exchanges, or simply having a conversation, I’m constantly inspired by their energy, creativity, and curiosity. It’s a privilege to be part of their journey, helping them to discover new ideas and develop their own paths in life.
Learning and Growing Through Volunteering
Moreover, volunteering has taught me the value of adaptability and resilience. Moving to a new country, adjusting to a different culture, and learning a new language have all been challenging, but these challenges have made me stronger. I’ve learned to embrace uncertainty and to see every obstacle as an opportunity for growth. This mindset has been incredibly empowering, both personally and professionally.
Contributing to the Community
In addition to my work with the youth, I’ve also had the chance to contribute to various community projects. From environmental initiatives to cultural events, I’ve been able to use my skills and passion to make a positive impact on the local community. Each project has been a learning experience, teaching me about project management, teamwork, and the importance of giving back.
Reflecting on My Journey
As I look back on my journey so far, I realise that volunteering with ESC has not only fulfilled my desire for personal and professional growth but has also given me a sense of purpose. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the path we least expect can lead to the most rewarding experiences.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue this journey, to keep learning, and to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way. I’m grateful for the experiences I’ve had and the people I’ve met, and I’m eager to see where this adventure will take me next.
Advice for Aspiring Volunteers
If there’s one piece of advice I would give to anyone considering volunteering, it’s this: take the leap. It might be daunting at first, but the rewards are immeasurable. You’ll gain more than just professional experience; you’ll gain a new perspective on life, new friendships, and a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.
So, here I am, in Poland, living a dream I never knew I had, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.
