Scientists of the Future: VET for Chemists & Environmental Protection Students

In May, we had the privilege of hosting a group of enthusiastic students from VSZC Ipari Technikum in Veszprém, Hungary. These aspiring chemists and environmentalists joined us for a Vocational Education and Training (VET) project designed to immerse them in real-world professional settings and broaden their perspectives by experiencing their field in another country.

A Warm Welcome: Kicking Off with Connection and Exploration

The adventure began with an engaging morning in our training room, where students participated in dynamic icebreaker activities to spark creativity and build camaraderie. Following this lively start, we embarked on a guided tour of Rzeszów, introducing them to the city’s rich history and iconic landmarks in the vibrant city centre.

Inspiring Minds: Workshops for a Sustainable Future

The educational core of the project unfolded with our “Sustainable Morning Talks,” led by our dedicated volunteers. These sessions tackled pressing topics like sustainable tourism and food safety, encouraging students to think critically about global challenges. In a creative exercise, they envisioned the future of their country, brainstorming innovative solutions to improve the quality of life.

Afternoons shifted focus to cultural exchange and awareness. Volunteers from Armenia, France, and Ukraine shared captivating presentations about their home countries, breaking down stereotypes and fostering open dialogue. One particularly impactful session explored consumerism, equipping students with practical strategies to reduce their environmental footprint in an era of overconsumption.

Out of the walls – learning from Polish professionals

To connect their studies to real-world applications, the students visited several cutting-edge facilities. At the Podkarpackie Science Centre (PCN), they explored diverse scientific fields through hands-on exhibits. A tour of the PGE waste incinerator plant revealed the intricacies of waste management and its environmental benefits. Visits to the MPWIK Wastewater Treatment Plant in Rzeszów and School Complex No. 3, home to a unique dairy museum, offered further insights. At the school, students also joined local peers for classes, fostering meaningful cross-cultural exchanges.

Cultural Adventures: Discovering Rzeszów and Beyond

The project wasn’t all work—cultural exploration played a key role. In Rzeszów, the students wandered through the mysterious Underground Cellars and marvelled at the historic Łańcut Castle. A day trip to Kraków immersed them in the city’s breathtaking history and architectural beauty, creating memories to last a lifetime.

A trip to remember

This VET project was a resounding success, blending education, cultural exchange, and inspiration. Together, we explored innovative ideas, tackled critical environmental issues, and visited state-of-the-art facilities that champion sustainability. We’re thrilled to have hosted such a dynamic group of students and look forward to welcoming more for future projects. This experience has left us all enriched, connected, and hopeful for a brighter, greener future.
