How I Decided to Become an ESC Volunteer: My Journey from Armenia to Poland

Inspiration from Slovakia

Hello, everyone! I’m Mariam, a 21-year-old from Armenia and a recent graduate of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), where I studied pedagogy and the English language. I’d like to share how my path led me to volunteer with the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) in Poland.

During my time as a student in Armenia, I had the opportunity to study for one semester in Slovakia through the Erasmus program. This experience was transformative—it was my first time living abroad, and it sparked a deep interest in cultural exchange and international communities. The friendships I made and the growth I experienced in Slovakia inspired me to seek further opportunities abroad.

Volunteering with INPRO in Poland

Upon returning to Armenia, I knew I wanted to continue working in a multicultural environment. That’s when I discovered the ESC and the chance to volunteer with INPRO in Poland. INPRO’s mission of promoting intercultural understanding and youth development resonated with me, making it the perfect place to apply my skills and passions.

Since arriving in Poland, I’ve been involved in hosting Open Cafés, writing blogs, and participating in various community projects that bring together young people from diverse backgrounds. These activities have been incredibly fulfilling, allowing me to connect with others, immerse myself in Polish culture, and share my Armenian heritage.

Reflecting on My Journey

My journey—from studying in Armenia to being an Erasmus student in Slovakia and now volunteering in Poland—has shaped me in countless ways. Each experience has deepened my belief in the power of cultural exchange and volunteering.

Volunteering with the ESC has been an opportunity to continue the journey that started in Slovakia, further exploring my passion for education and making meaningful connections across borders.

Thank you for reading my story! I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next.

Warm regards,

Mariam
