3 Days in Rzeszów: Dwa Bratanki
“Polak, Węgier – dwa bratanki, i do szabli, i do szklanki”.
For our English readers, this is a famous Polish expression, the literal translation is “Pole and Hungarian—two brothers, when it comes to the sword and the glass”. This expression serves as a reminder of the historical friendship between the two countries and was used as the base of the Felczak Foundation program in which INPRO collaborated as a host.
Dwa Bratanki (Two Brothers) was a three-day program held in Rzeszów, Poland, in April 2024. It fostered cultural exchange between Polish and Hungarian youth. Polish participants included students and members of the Rzeszów Youth Council, while their Hungarian counterparts came from the Kulturális Életért Közhasznú Egyesület (Cultural Life Public Benefit Association), an organisation focused on youth work.
Day 1: Arrival and Icebreakers
On Wednesday, the Hungarian group arrived and was warmly hosted by INPRO volunteers. After settling into their rooms and reuniting in the training room, they met the Polish participants. The afternoon was dedicated to getting acquainted through engaging activities that helped break the ice and foster connections.
The highlight of the day was attending Open Cafe, INPRO’s most popular event, featuring the topic “Gaming Culture: Influence and Impact.” Many of the Polish participants were regulars and helped the Hungarians feel welcome and connect with others. From a gaming quiz to an open discussion, the group explored the event’s potential impact on the local community. The evening continued with pizza and lively conversations, building upon connections formed earlier.
Day 2: City Exploration and Local Gems
Day two began with a city tour led by Adrian, a historian and long-term volunteer at INPRO. The participants not only admired Rzeszów’s beauty but also delved into its history, sparking discussions about various historical topics. The tour extended beyond the usual final stop, Lubomirski Castle, to include the impressive Philharmonic Hall and a relaxing stroll by the river.
The afternoon began with a presentation by the Polish group. They shared valuable insights into their work within the Rzeszów Youth Council, discussing their experiences, challenges, and procedures. This served as a springboard for a workshop led by INPRO volunteers, focusing on “City Strengths and Challenges.” In mixed groups, participants analyzed both Rzeszów and their own cities, identifying strengths, needs, and potential areas for improvement.

Day 3: Rzeszów City Hall Visit
On the final day, the group visited Rzeszów’s City Hall, a stunning building located in the Rzeszów Rynek. Beyond admiring the architecture and history, they had the privilege of meeting with decision-makers, including the Vice President of Rzeszów. The Vice President and the City Hall representatives provided presentations on Rzeszów, its development, and community engagement, followed by a Q&A session. The visit concluded with the group receiving symbolic gifts from the City Hall.
Continuing the Connection
This wasn’t the end of the “Dwa Bratanki” experience for these young leaders. In June, they will reunite in Nyíregyháza, Rzeszów’s twin city. There, they will meet with local decision-makers and youth council representatives. The program aims to foster networking and development opportunities for both communities, allowing participants to suggest ideas for mutual growth. This exchange builds upon the historical connection between the two cities, promising a lasting and impactful relationship.
