From FIFA to Rzeszów: Arij’s Quest for Cultural Connection and Personal Growth
I am Arij Raach. I arrived in Rzeszow in July 2023 to take part in the ESC program. My journey will last for exactly a year. At 26, I’m the oldest volunteer here at INPRO.
I have always believed in the power of volunteerism. Before my ESC journey here in Poland, I had the opportunity to volunteer at other events such as the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Special Olympics in Berlin. Volunteering at such big events allowed me to meet and interact with other volunteers from different backgrounds, which gave me a sense of belonging and allowed me to contribute to the success of these events personally. These experiences inspired me to start looking for a longer volunteering experience.
I came across the ESC portal while searching for new opportunities. Even though I’m not an EU citizen, there were several opportunities in which I can apply for. I did my research, chose the most suitable opportunity for my skills, went through the application process and here I am writing this article from INPRO’s office in Rzeszów.

To be a volunteer abroad for a whole year, was a decision that carried both excitement and uncertainty. I anticipated forming deep, meaningful connections with both the people I’m meeting here and my fellow volunteers, which was the case. Additionally, I hoped that this extended stay would provide me with a comprehensive understanding of the local culture, allowing me to immerse myself fully in the traditions and values that define Poland. I eagerly anticipated the challenges and learning opportunities that would inevitably arise, fully embracing the potential for this year to shape my perspective and leave an enduring imprint on my life.
I came here with little to no expectations. My prior knowledge of the country was limited, but I decided to approach the experience with an open mind. After all those months here, I can confidently say that I’m genuinely amazed by the country’s charm.
In addition to my ESC program, I am actively involved in facilitating youth activities such as Erasmus+ youth exchanges, hosting Open Cafe every week, going for school visits, contributing to the projects written, and writing blog posts.
