Learning to Teach: VET group of Pedagogues in Rzeszów

Imagine this: July 23, 2023, a group of Hungarian high schoolers arrived in Rzeszów, Poland. Their mission? To dive into the world of teaching and pedagogy, eager to develop their skills and soak up new experiences.

They participated in a two-week VET program hosted by INPRO, embracing the challenge of an unfamiliar country where they were confronted with a language they barely knew – a crucial step in stepping out of their comfort zones.

The program included visits to TUTU Centrum Rozwoju Psychofizycznego, a centre supporting individuals affected by war and residents of Podkarpackie, and the Montessori school in Rzeszów. These spaces offered the participants a firsthand opportunity to engage with workers and witness the impact of their work. INPRO’s long-term volunteers organized various workshops that encouraged the high schoolers to be open, communicative, and adaptable to challenges.

Although the program focused on pedagogy, it also allowed time to explore the city. From castles to museums, Rzeszów became a place for discovery. The students immersed themselves in local events like open cafes and learning about diverse languages and cultures. They also had ample free time to explore their surroundings, truly stepping outside their comfort zones.

Teaching shares similarities with volunteering, reflecting a selfless act of giving oneself to others. The program sparked conversations about the most crucial characteristic a teacher should possess. While no specific conclusion was reached, the act of genuinely being present—listening and engaging—stood out as a pivotal aspect of pedagogy.
