Music has always been one of the more honest ways to talk about things that are hard to say directly. That was the premise behind Music Changing Perspectives – a youth exchange that brought together volunteers and participants from France, Poland and Italy to make something together and put it in front of an audience.
Over the course of the exchange, participants didn't just listen and discuss. They composed original songs, worked through improvisation, created covers of existing tracks, and then organised and performed a live concert at BWA Krosno gallery. Facilitators and team leaders guided the process, but the creative output was the group's own.
The project had a serious thread running through it. Participants worked through the challenges young people face across Europe today and explored how music can function as an educational tool – one that draws people in and gets them genuinely involved in community life rather than observing from a distance. The hope is that other youth organisations take note of the approach.
The concert that closed the exchange brought all of it together. Original material, performed live, with the difficulties young people face in their home countries as the subject matter. An argument, made through music, that international collaboration produces something neither country could make alone – and that active participation in community development is worth the effort.
Alongside the musical work, participants spent time with the local community in Krosno, joining events and meeting young people from the city. The exchange didn't stay inside the rehearsal room.
Music Changing Perspectives was organised in partnership with Organisation for Empowerment and Non-formal Education from France and Young Effect Association from Italy.
The project was co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme.
