What is Open Cafe Training Course

The training course took place from the 15th to 19th of April, 2019 in Rzeszów, Poland. It gathered 20 participants from Poland, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and Greece.

The training course aimed to introduce youth leaders into Open Cafe as a method for integration. It raised awareness about promoting intercultural dialogue, sharing common values on European citizenship and tolerance.

Participants developed personal skills such as self-confidence and self-motivation, project management, public speaking, how to create a motivational environment, how to delegate, and give and receive a feedback. These are skills which are are needed for hosting the Open Cafe event.

During the training course, participants also learned how to:
– run Open Cafe events;
– establish a comfortable space of communication;
– ensure that Open Cafe participants feel welcome and in a safe environment;
– choose topics according to the needs of their community;
– deal with conflicts during the Open Cafe event;
– draw out opinions and ideas of participants;
– use the Open Cafe event as a structure that allows everyone’s ideas to be heard and respected.
